10 October 2025

In 1945, the winning allies in World War II formalized the post-war world with the Bretton Woods agreements that were planned one-year earlier. In the wake of the bloodshed, a new era began with great optimism for peace, food security, and international law. Among the new institutions that was formed is the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. With its headquarters in Rome (later joined by other agricultural intergovernmental organizations, like IFAD), FAO began to provide technical support to post-war and new post-colonial governments in order to bring stability, rural health, food security, in addition to efficiency and scale. The results of FAO's 80 years is as mixed as the past 80 years have been. It gave rise to the industrialization of food, a reliance upon chemical inputs, the Green Revolution, and more.

For this reason, the World Farmers Markets Coalition (for which I serve as founding President) is thrilled to host its third general assembly at the FAO, to kick off its Seeds to Foods festival.

Dates: 10, 11, and 12 October

Location: FAO Headquarters in Rome and the Campagna Amica Farmers Market at Circo Massimo

Times and more details: Check the website for more details

I look forward to addressing the general assembly on several occasions during the weekend.
