Thinking back to the first time attended the Public Markets Conference in 1996, I hardly knew of the Project for Public Spaces. Everything was so new to me — having only just founded the Crescent City Farmers Markets 6 months prior. Since, I've only missed one edition. This year's gathering takes place in one of the more surprising Great Lakes cities, Milwaukee.
I look forward to joining the opening plenary discussion with an amazing roster of speakers on Thursday, 12 June 2025:
Global Roundup & Panel: The Next 50 years of Public Markets with Kurt Wheeler, PPS; Moderator, Kelly Verel, PPS; Max Budovitch, Office of the Mayor of Chicago; Tina Jadav, Greater London Authority; Katherine Miller, Table 81, and myself. Info here.
I also am very pleased to be co-presenting with two remarkable colleagues from the Americas on Friday, 13 June 2025:
Make Some Noise! Scaling Up Policies from Farmers Market Outreach and Advocacy Around the World. Explore community outreach strategies farmers market professionals and advocates across the globe are using to campaign for markets as vehicles for building healthy cities and food security — Ana Maria Huaita Alfaro (Peru), Jean-Nick Trudel (Canada), and myself. Info here.
